A Powerful Video

Last night, while scrolling through my Facebook feed, I stumbled across this video from The Chronicle of Higher Education, and I found it very moving.  If you have a few minutes, please check it out:

If you do view it, let me know what you think.  Thanks!

  1. This video was very eye-opening. It was a great reminder that many situations can be anxiety riddled and uncomfortable. It made me wonder about the inclusiveness at Regis. I know a few professors where these students would feel comfortable and treated in a manner that they would appreciate, but are there policies around preferences etc...? It really helps to hear real peoples' perspectives and feelings on this subject matter.

  2. I think what was so moving about this video is that a majority of the students when asked the final question what gets them excited to learn said a safe place or an inclusive environment. I know that may be difficult depending on the university but it is also an extremely simple task if the professor sets the boundaries right away acknowledging all students rather than just the ones whom they are comfortable with. The fact that a student who identifies within the LGBTQ community needs these basic things in order to participate, learn, and grow in the classroom is frustrating for me because so many do not have this privilege. I never worry about having a safe space or comfortability in the classroom, I have the privilege in which I do not have to internally struggle with those fears.
